Empoli has got a very old history and a past rich in culture. The old town centre is well preserved and it is witness to the great artistic value of the city itself. The most important buildings overlook the beautiful square of Farinata degli Uberti, circled by walls: the Collegiate church of S. Andrea, the Praetorian Building, the Ghibelline Building. By the small square of the church there is the access to the museum of the collegiate church. Among the citizens it is worth mentioning two important people: painter Jacopo Carucci, named Pontormo, and Ferruccio Busoni, famous musician who lived at the beginning of this century.
