Many important people were born and lived in Florence as Dante Alighieri (poet), Filippo Brunelleschi (architect), Benvenuto Cellini (goldsmith, ), Francesco Guicciardini (historian), Giovanni Cimabue (artist), Niccolo Machiavelli (politician and historian) Lorenzo the Magnificent (the most famous of the Medicis).
