Mount Argentario is a high and rocky promontory overhung by Mount Telegrafo. The trip around Mount Argentario runs along about 26 Km of panoramic road which starts off close to the steep coastline, abundant with ravines, with terraces of vines on the high ground, a covering of scrub on the lower, until reaching its end 9,3 kms from Cala Piccola. From here, one continues inland, climbing for a few Km and then descending again towards the southern coast of Argentario, close to the Cala dellíOlio and the coastal strip in front of Isola Rossa. From this point, the road proceeds afresh inland up to Porto Ercole. The whole countryside is particularly evocative, with wide and most beautiful views. The largest town on the promontory is Porto Santo Stefano, the embarcation point for Giglio island and a commercial fishing and tourist centre.
