pistoia travel guide

Pistoia was a Roman colony from the 6th century BC. In 62 BC the Roman conspirator Catiline was slain near Pistoia. By the end of the 11th century AD the city was a free commune of commercial and cultural importance. It came under Florentine rule early in the 14th century; with Florence it became part of Tuscany in 1530, and in 1860 part of the kingdom of Italy. It is believed that the first pistols (Italian pistola) were manufactured in Pistoia.
