Perched on a hillside in northern Umbria, charming Gubbio has changed little since the Middle Ages. Every year on 15 May, Gubbio holds the traditional Corsa dei Ceri (Candles): Men race through the streets carrying enormous wooden poles (the "candles") with statues of saints balanced precariously on top.
